Melissa & Adam in Charleston, SC

Melissa & Adam in Charleston, SC
Melissa and Adam hosted a wedding with an old Hollywood theme in Charleston, South Carolina.

Location: Riviera Theatre at Charleston Place, Charleston
The four bridesmaids wore strapless, two-piece, floor-length dresses in black with white sashes. Crystal brooches (a gift from the bride) were attached to the sashes, giving off that old Hollywood vintage feeling.
As guests entered the lobby of the theater, they picked up their place cards (designed to look like tickets) and Playbill look-alike programs. Ceramic popcorn bowls filled with flowers and a large popcorn bowl filled with popcorn adorned the program and escort table.
Votive candles and vine-covered wine bottles (which the couple had saved from over the past year) filled with either stargazer lilies or carousel roses decorated the tables. In lieu of numbers, Melissa and Adam named the reception tables after classic Hollywood movies such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Rebel Without a Cause. Pillar candles tied with fuchsia ribbon added flare to the long tables.
Following the ceremony, the curtains behind the huppah opened up into an Art Deco-style ballroom. Black and white linens alternated between 13 tables. The four course sit-down dinner included agnolotti; spinach and arugula salad with gorgonzola cheese, candied walnuts, and pear vinaigrette; roast chicken with Madeira reduction; and for dessert, wedding cake, Petit Fours, and chocolate-dipped strawberries.
The three-tier black and white frosted cake alternated between chocolate and cinnamon flavors. Each layer featured a unique design: horizontal stripes, vertical stripes, and a diamond pattern.
Melissa wore a strapless, mermaid-style white gown with beading at the top and bottom. Her veil was simple with just some delicate white trim. Melissa’s white shoes had white rhinestone buckles too. To tie into the Hollywood theme, Melissa also donned a faux white fur wrap.
With hopes of getting married in an Art Deco venue, Melissa Jenkins and Adam Ross decided on an old Hollywood theater theme for their wedding. The couple carried the theme throughout the whole day -- from the programs to the centerpieces -- and accented their black and white color scheme with pink and white flowers.

The Date November 12

Melissa and Adam met at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital where Adam was a resident and Melissa worked part time. Melissa made the first move by inviting Adam to her birthday party. But the following week it was Adam that did the asking -- for a first date. Two years later, Adam surprised Melissa with a trip to Napa Valley, where the couple went wine tasting and out to a French restaurant for dinner. Dessert arrived with a candle. (Adam had told the waiter it was Melissa’s birthday -- it wasn’t.) “He told me to close my eyes and make a wish about life or relationships,” remembers Melissa, who closed her eyes and wished away. “When I opened my eyes, Adam was down on one knee with the ring and then he proposed!”
